Ghost of Tsushima Codexery

The Forge

From the fires of slavery, a new weapon for freedom is forged.

The Forge is a sprawling industrial complex nestled within the rugged mountains of Kamiagata Province, serving as the primary source of steel and weaponry for Tsushima Island's defenders. Before the Mongol invasion, it was a place of quiet industry where skilled smiths crafted tools and blades for the island's farmers and samurai. Following the arrival of Khotun Khan's forces, the facility was seized by the invaders, who repurposed its furnaces to mass-produce weapons for their army while holding local workers as slaves.

Lore & Background

The Mongol occupation transformed this beacon of craftsmanship into a grim engine of war. Khotun Khan's forces recognized the strategic importance of controlling Tsushima's steel production immediately. They enslaved the workers, forcing them to labor under brutal conditions to create weapons for the very army that had devastated their homes. The smoke rising from its chimneys no longer signaled industry, but rather the suffering of the islanders and the relentless march of the Horde.

In Their Own Story

The air inside the cavernous hall tasted of ash and sweat, a choking mixture that clung to the back of Jiro's throat. He hammered the glowing metal, his movements mechanical, forced by the whip-crack of an overseer echoing off the stone walls. Outside, the wind howled through the mountain pass, but here, the only sound was the rhythmic clang of steel on anvil and the heavy breathing of men who had forgotten what freedom felt like. Then, a shadow fell across the courtyard—a lone figure in white armor, moving with a silence that defied the chaos. The overseers looked up, their eyes widening as the fires seemed to dim in the presence of something far more terrifying than their swords.

Reader's Guide

The Forge is located deep within Kamiagata Province, surrounded by steep cliffs and dense forests that provide natural cover for approaching from multiple angles. Historically significant as the island's main armory, it was a critical target for the Mongols to secure early in their campaign to sustain their supply lines. Visitors will find several hidden collectibles scattered throughout the facility, including Spirit Stones tucked away in upper walkways and scrolls detailing the history of smithing hidden in abandoned offices. The area is heavily guarded by Mongol patrols, requiring stealth or combat prowess to navigate safely. During the invasion, the landscape changes drastically; once an open workshop, it becomes a fortified prison with heavy gates and watchtowers. Liberating the Forge involves freeing the enslaved workers, destroying Mongol supply caches, and reclaiming the furnaces, turning the site from a symbol of oppression back into a beacon of resistance.
